Be a Designated DriverThe Designated Driver operates by a very simple concept: One member of a group of two or more pledges to drink only non-alcoholic beverages, and provides safe and sober transportation home for companions. The Designated Driver is not a social excuse for other occupants of a vehicle to use alcohol irresponsibly or excessively. Becoming a Designated Driver is the only way Americans can be assured that there is always a driver behind the wheel of a vehicle with a 0.00 BAC; that is, NO alcohol contained in the blood of the driver. MADD does not oppose the responsible use of alcohol by those 21 and older. However, since the safest driver is the one not consuming alcohol, MADD believes that the Designated Driver concept insures that only those who are alcohol free get behind the wheel of a vehicle. MADD opposes the consumption of alcohol by anyone under the legal drinking age of 21. Therefore, MADD makes it clear that if you are under 21 years of age, the Designated Driver concept is not for you, unless, your parents (after drinking) or the friends with you are of legal drinking age and having consumed alcohol, and you are asked, as a licensed driver, to be the Designated Driver. MADD Orange County is pleased to report that Claim Jumper Restaurants all over Orange County are setting the standard by supporting Designated Drivers who agree to drink NO alcohol and provide safe transportation for other members of their group.
