3rd Annual Essay Contest - 2001

Theme "There are Faces Behind the Statistics"

Entries due March 30, 2001

September 22, 2000

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is proud to announce our 3rd Annual Essay Contest.  This program is intended to provide our youth with a vehicle to express their personal feelings with respect to the dangers of drunk driving in a creative and positive fashion.  Every child in first through sixth grade is encouraged to participate!

The following are some of the benefits to the students who participate:

  • Acknowledgement letter, youth oriented literature, red ribbon, poster and more are sent to every student who enters our contest.
  • First, second and third place winners will also receive exciting entertainment prize packages and a framed "Winners Certificate."
  • The winning prize packages will be presented in the student's class with photo opportunities for the student, teacher and school principal.
  • The winners will be featured in MADD's next quarterly newsletter.
  • MADD will host a pizza party for the class of the two first place winners.
  • MADD will be sending out press releases for these events to the media.

Our theme this year is "There are faces behind the statistics."  Your teachers may want to emphasize some of the enclosed statistics or have their students research some of the statistics about drinking and driving, including those that can be found on MADD's Internet site www.maddorangecounty.org.

Essays will be judged in two groups and grade level will be factored into the judging.

The first group will consist of students in grades 1 - 3.  The second group, students in grades 4 - 6.  Members of MADD's Board of Directors, staff and other community volunteers will be judging this contest.

We hope that you and your classes will decide to take part in this project that is used year-round to help achieve our mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.  Enclosed is an entry form, which you may photocopy.

Please contact MADD at (714) 838-6199 with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Programs & Events Coordinator MADD, Orange County
