Daddy's Little Girl

We met on a Sunday,
The only day which you were sober.
I screamed and cried on our first meeting,
But our love for each other was present.
I was your only little girl,
And you were the first man I ever loved.

As I cried during the day, you held me in your arms
and comforted me,
Yet when night came you were gone.
You were off to support a terrible habit.
I missed you when you left,
But come day, I was once again Daddy's Little Girl.

Then one night when you were up to no good,
tragedy struck two families.
You took a boy from his loved ones,
And you were taken away from me.

I visited you and hoped for the day I would see
you free again.
After a long while, you were once again back with me.
You gave up your terrible habit and truly tried your
best to take care of me.

I had grown up though.
I could stand, and even walk, on my own.
You were different, too.

You were more understanding and caring.
You were there for me always.
I grew to love you even more than before.
I depended on you,
And trusted that you would never leave me again.

Then once again tragedy struck.
As I stood outside my seventh grade art class
I watched an ambulance drive past my school,
Its sirens were blaring.
Little did I know that these sirens were for you.
I found later that day of the accident.
You left me once again because of drugs and alcohol,
Yet this time you were not the to the one to blame.
Although I will never again experience the feeling of being
Daddy's Little Girl,

You will always be the first man I ever loved.
