MADD has teamed up with Michael Reese Enterprises, Inc. to turn your car into funds that run our programs!
And the best part... it's so simple!
When you call Michael Reese Enterprises, Inc. at (888) 489-DONATE, a friendly voice will take down some basic information about you and your vehicle.
Then, at a pre-scheduled
time, they will come out and tow your vehicle away... running or
not ... for free!
You will also be provided with a receipt so that you can deduct this contribution from your taxes.
"But," you may ask, "I heard that when you donate, the non-profit you donate to doesn't get very much of the actual profit.
How much does MADD Orange County actually get?"
We're so glad you asked! It is true that with most companies, the non-profit
group gets a percentage of the profits on the car. The profit would be whatever the car sold for at auction
in whole or in parts minus towing, repairs, DMV fees and any other necessary expenses.
That could end up being less than $100 per vehicle.
Not so with Michael Reese Enterprises,
Inc.! They have contracted with MADD Orange County to give a percentage of the total
proceeds without subtracting the miscellaneous costs first. So go ahead, get rid of that vehicle taking up space in your driveway.
It's worth it to
you and it's certainly worth it to MADD. By acting now, lives may be saved!

MADD Orange County continues to reach young adults with the message that reveals the dangers of alcohol and other drugs.
In keeping with MADD's tradition, every year we help Orange County high schools with their end of
year assemblies by providing speakers, demonstrations, video presentations and the famous "crashed car" during prom and graduation week.
These events and materials help not only to raise the public awareness of the students on campus during this most dangerous time of the year, but also
pique their interest, causing them to ask questions and seek answers.
To encourage these types of constructive attitudes, MADD held its Second
Annual T-shirt Design Contest in
1999 with great success! Once again we had a positive response; not only from the student bodies of our high schools, but from the businesses in our community who support MADD's
SoberProm program.
The winning entry was from a Senior from El Toro High School. The First Place
prize was awarded for her striking design with the theme "I'm not Buying It."
The winning design was printed on more than 700 t-shirts distributed
throughout Orange County.
As part of her award, she received three hours of Midnight Express Limo
Service, dance lessons at Arthur Murray Dance
Studios, dinner for two at Mimi's Cafe, two passes to
Universal Studios, a formal makeover at Making Faces
Salon, a $50 gift certificate for the Irvine Spectrum, and
a $50 gift certificate towards a formal gown from Robinson's May Company. Because of the generosity of the merchants in our community, her entire prize package had a value of almost $700!
The second prize went to a Senior at Garden Grove High School.
His
prize package included a tux rental from Friar
Tux, two AMC
popcorn & movie passes, two passes to Six Flags Magic
Mountain, dinner for two at the Claim Jumper
Restaurant and a gift certificate to IKEA.

Public Awareness Booths are one of the most noticeable methods used by MADD to educate the public about the dangers of drinking and driving.
Volunteers give freely of their time to staff these booths for two hour shifts as events occur throughout Orange County.
They hand out literature, answer questions from the
public and do demonstrations with a wonderful tool called
FATALVision goggles.
These goggles simulate visual impairment at a Blood Alcohol Level (BAC) of .15% - .20%.
That's more than twice the legal limit of .08%! Yet this is the average BAC of someone who is arrested for DUI (Driving Under the Influence).
FATALVision goggles help to demonstrate what it is like to be visually impaired by alcohol or other drugs.
This is a vital learning experience for teenagers and small children because 30% of the deaths of young people age 25 and under are due to car
crashes; half of those crashes are alcohol-related. These individuals are often the passenger of an impaired driver.
Using these goggles as a demonstration helps people realize how life-threatening it is to get into a car with someone who has been drinking alcohol.
The goggles greatly alter a person's depth perception and balance.
The impairment is so dramatic that it is not uncommon to hear individuals say,
I was about to fall down ... I'm never going to drink and drive!
With the instantaneous effects that we feel with the goggles, it is not difficult to perceive how dangerous it is to try to operate a vehicle after drinking alcohol.
MADD Orange County is always in need of volunteers who are willing to help get the word out through this type of event.
If you would like to help staff these Public Awareness Booth Events, please contact our office at
(714) 838-6199. Your help could save lives!
