4th Annual T-Shirt Design Contest - 2001Theme "There are Faces Behind the Statistics"Entries due March 9, 2001 (postmark)
Dear High School Art Director, We are pleased to announce MADD, Orange County's 4th Annual T-shirt Design Contest. This program is intended to encourage young artists to use their talents in a way that raises the public's, and their peer's, awareness about MADD's mission:
The following are some of the benefits to the students who participate:
Our theme this year is "There are Faces behind the Statistics." Only designs with a "no use" message will be considered for First Place, since many of these T-shirts will be distributed to those under the age of 21. In other words, our concern is for those under the age of 21 to not drink at all, whereas the drinking and driving prevention message is appropriate for those legally allowed to drink. Please photocopy as many copies as you need of the Rules/Permission Form for your students. We hope that you and your students will help to set the standard and get involved! Sincerely, Programs & Events Coordinator MADD, Orange County cc: Principal & ASB President Sobering StatisticsMost Americans will see 100,000 beer commercials before the age of 18. Because of alcohol-related crashes, 6 people are injured every day in Orange County. 1 person is killed every 8th day on California streets and highways. Alcohol and tobacco together have killed more than 50 times the number of people killed by heroine, cocaine and every other drug combined. In the traffic crashes involving ages 15-25, 54% of the fatalities were the driver, 40% were passengers, 5% were pedestrians and 1% were bicyclists. Of the 20 million junior and senior high school students in America, 1/2 drink monthly. More than 25% of teens who admitted drinking said they drink when they are bored, 31% drink when alone. Even at BAC levels as low as 0.02%, alcohol affects driving and crash likelihood.
